The option CONFIG_STRIP_KERNEL_EXPORTS adds “-include symtab.h” for all linker script invokations. See openwrt/include/kernel-defaults.mk:

On recent kernels (4.9.x, arm64 build), linker scripts are used to generate “vdso.lds” at the “make modules” stage.
But the file “symtab.h” is generated later (at the install/image generation stage). See openwrt/include/kernel-build.mk:

  • Sidenotes:

- 32bit arm (brcm2708_bcm2708) is not affected, the vdso stuff is generated by normal .c files

- On arm64 4.4 kernels, the vdso stuff is not compiled for reasons, that I don’t know. Anyway, openwrt-17.01 is not affected

I have an original v1 WNDR3700 which was running fine on LEDE 17.01.4 using the image downloaded directly from the distribution site. I built a new image yesterday that was up to date with trunk and flashed the sysupgrade image produced using LuCI, after the router came back up it was in failsafe mode with the stock text about needing to flash again with a sysupgrade-compatible image.

I am reporting it here in case something recent is at fault. (I am rebuilding with git reverted to the 17.01.4 tag to ensure that I can successfully build an equivalent image that flashes successfully, but I don’t think there was anything terribly unusual about my build, no errors were encountered and I built from distclean all the way up the toolchain to produce the image.)

Happy to try to retrieve any other logs or diagnostics you might find useful.

I have configured up 3 VLANs using Luci. These are correctly added to /etc/config/network and “uci show | grep switch” shows the entries I’d expect. However only 2 VLANs are correctly configured. The 3rd can be brought up with a manual invocation of “swconfig”. I’ve tried the same thing on an DGN3500 (VR9 platform), also with LEDE 17.01.4, and it works there, leading me to suspect this is a kernel issue with the VRX200 driver.

The switch config in /etc/config/network looks like:

I have setup Openvpn using TUN server method, as per https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/vpn.openvpn

Clients are able to connect and ping the tun0 IP, however cannot connect to anything on the lan. The problem appears to be the firewall script is unable to resolve tun0 interface, so skips rules that requiring that interface.

Warning: Section 'vpn' cannot resolve device of network 'vpn0'

To work around the problem, I have to manually insert the following iptables rules:

iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o tun0 -j zone_vpn_postrouting
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i tun0 -j zone_vpn_prerouting
iptables -A INPUT -i tun0 -j zone_vpn_input
iptables -A OUTPUT -o tun0 -j zone_vpn_output
iptables -I FORWARD 9 -i tun0 -j zone_vpn_forward

Once those rules have been inserted, everthing works perfectly!

This issue may relate to External LinkFS#1024

Flashing SL-R7205 with the latest 17.01.4 with config reset, noticed that default Ethernet port config is wrong so all Ethernet ports become non-operational. The proper port config is described in model notes.

The main problem is that WiFi is turned off by default in modern LEDE/OpenWRT builds so the router becomes totally inaccessible via the net, and the only way to set proper port config is to connect a serial console.

Please change default Ethernet config for this model to the proper one.

Flashed SL-R7205 with the latest 17.01.4 without keeping existing config and noticed that default Ethernet port configuration is incorrect, so all Ethernet ports are non-operational. Earlier, there was a way to change port configuration via WiFi but in latest builds WiFi is turned off by default so the only way to access the router is a serial console.

Please change default Ethernet port config as described in model notes.

Apologize in advance if Critical is not the correct severity for a package needed to make dnssec work.

I’ve used dnssec mostly successfully with dnscrypt-proxy & dnsmasq-full on Choas Calmer. I recently upgraded to LEDE & the dnsmasq-full package fails to start dnsmasq for some reason. Apparently I need the dnsmasq-full package to use dnssec.

At any rate, there is a new dnsmasq error message (vice Choas Calmer) on init.d restart with both the base & full package, so I’m not sure if it’s relevant:
udhcpc: started, v1.25.1
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: no lease, failing

I’ve tried resetting to the default dhcp & checked that dnsmasq.conf is basically still empty - to no avail.

What might I be doing wrong?

We run 17.01.4 (with latest package updates) on Archer C7 (4.4.92 mips / ath10k)

 

We have several similar ArcherC7s that experience a periodic disconnect on 2.4G band. We are fairly certain it occurs on all of them, though about 5 of them actively see this issue where we have to deal with it.

The result is no 2.4G devices can connect (no issue with 5G) until we execute “wifi” or reboot the ArcherC7s.

We have applied a cron job that runs each night and executes “wifi” to workaround this issue since 17.01.2 but believe it may have been present since 17.01.1. It is still present in 17.01.4 unfortunately so we have decided to commit some time to resolving.

In one of our office locations, to monitor this bug with the hope of oneday resolving it, we do not run the cron job, and only have two 2.4G devices connected.

On this device where we have to manually intervene to work around the problem, in the last 52 days (current uptime), the 2.4G failure has happenened three times.

Between the 1st and 2nd occurence we saw these SWBA messages in our dmesg.

Before each occurence of the 2.4G failure, at some point we see these messages noting the three different timestamps:

The only other message that jumps out in the dmesg is the one below, but like thw SWBA, it is not associated with each occurence.

The 2.4G clients are a D-LINK DCH-S150 motion detector (70:62:b8:93:98:b8) and a Google Chromecast (6C:AD:F8:4B:A3:52)

There is not much else in the dmesg (which I have attached), other then the bridge changes that occur when we execute “wifi” to resolve the issue which help identify which messages occur before resolving the issue each time (which can be days later as we only really notice when Chromecast is offline and we are trying to use it).

Nothing jumps out of our logread (and has not in the past), but typically the buffer has wrapped (as was the case today) and provided no messages related to the 2.4G clients.

Our 2.4G config is below, noting we do have a 40Mhz wide config enabled leveraging ht_coex and htmode.

Strongswan seems to be trying to use CAAM crypto hardware device on this router through the kernel but the device doesn’t seem to be present or available causing strongswan to fail while trying to add a SA to the kernel.
Everytime strongswan is trying to add a SA to the kernel the following error messages are logged in strongswan and the kernel log. The kernel log error message seems to be generated by the CAAM code (I checked the kernel source to confirm this).

Strongswan log:

CAAM must either be disabled or built as a kernel module for this specific router since hardware support is not there and it can only cause potential problems like in this case with Strongswan.

I’m tagging the bug as critical since as reported above Strongswan is not usable on this router due to this bug in the kernel configuration.

- Installed gre module with: opkg install gre mod-gre
- Added gre interfaces to /etc/config/network as following:

Hello,

I’m using an OpenWrt (Barrier Breaker r39582 ) TP-Link router to connect to the Internet through a DSL modem, via PPPoE.

Everything is fine, except when under high upstream load (i.e., when I saturate my upstream bandwidth, and only under these conditions). In these conditions, the OpenWrt router is unable to receive modem replies to PPPoE LCP echo-requests, and terminates the PPP connection. This behavior is experienced only under heavy upstream traffic, and is pretty deterministic.

This defect is also witnessed by the following log excerpt:

I’ve attempted to play with PPPD lcp-echo-interval and lcp-echo-failure parameters, but I’m unable to solve the problem through these settings.

I guess the correct solution should be to “prioritize” (QoS?) PPP LCP echos, but maybe there is a simpler way to do it.

LEDE/OpenWRT provides builds of Node.js for MIPSel 24Kc that require floating point instructions, however MIPS 24Kc doesn’t have a FPU. (only MIPS 24Kf does).

It still worked fine, at least on mt7688 with LEDE 17.01.4, as the kernel was configured with FPU emulation enabled.

This config option was dropped when moving to Linux 4.9 and merging mt7688 with mt7628 to mt76x8.

I’m attempting to use QMI on a GL.Inet MiFi equipped with a Quectel EC-25A cellular modem.

When I configure the interface using qmi I am able to connect to the cellular network at the radio layer, however my wwan0 interface is not assigned an IP address. Here’s my configuration from /etc/config/network:

And some commands showing the device behaviour. You’ll note that raw_ip needs to be set to Y. I’ve integrated this [patch](https://github.com/bmork/LEDE/commit/10aed12fa587e818e4dc5d0db54545623fbe9b5f) to have qmi.sh set the raw_ip mode when required.

Ubnt Nanostation Loco M2 - WDS link drops out after a few hours
I have a pair of Nanostation Loco M2 access points setup as a wireless bridge over a ~1300 foot (~400M) line of sight link.
I have had LEDE 17.01.3, 17.0.4 and OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r5499-575178e / LuCI Master (git-17.343.27587-8e6b1a6).

One is setup as a WDS AP and the other is setup as a WDS Client, after a few hours (4-12 hours?) the link drops out but still says that is connected (if I go to status it shows the other AP as connected but I cannot ping or do anything else across the link).
If I restart the wireless service on the client, the connection comes right back and all is well for a 4-12 hours.
Anyone have any suggestions on where to look? Below are the kernel and system logs for the time period in question:

Hello! I moved from openwrt to lede and got hacked. Seems like lede allows blank passwords for root for ‘wan’ interface by default. My fault. But by default blank should not be allowed for ‘wan’ interface s which is default for all ssh installations.

I’ve checked dropbear source and found ‘-B’ option which is disabled by default. Not sure what is happening with lede. So, I post this issue.

I would suggest following default config for /etc/config/dropbear

- Steps to reproduce - Run trunk for a few hours and verify that the data on the hard drive is legitimate.

Basically, with kernel 4.9 there’s some weird issue where after several hours (around 18), the SATA controller starts returning bad data. On 4.4, this is not a problem.

I’ve avoided reporting this problem to kernel.org since ramips is quite LEDE specific. Could be a pcie issue for all I know.

The data on the actual hard drive is fine. It’s just bad data that’s being returned. Maybe bit errors or something.

The way I test this is by using transmission with its Verify feature. Last I tested with adm + ext4, a torrent that verified at 100% verified at 91% 3 days later.

btrfs is more vocal since it reports silent data corruption and throws checksum mismatch errors in dmesg quite frequently after a few hours.

I currently work around the issue by running kernel 4.4, but this is not a long term solution.

The documentation suggests that the option log would only log rejected and dropped packages, which is what I’m interested in. I don’t need the MSSFIX messages.

My WAN zone has masquerading as well as the option “mtu_fix” enabled (by default). The “mtu_fix” option seems to cause these messages. Apparently, this has been an issue in OpenWrt a long time ago, was then fixed and somehow got reintroduced? See ticket [1]

How can I enabled logging but not log the useless MSSFIX messages?

The commonly used OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.4.22.1.2 does not report a complete list of clients.

Using snmpd 5.7.3-3 on LEDE 17.01.04, ssh in and display a list of connected clients with iwinfo wlan0 assoclist. To query via SNMP from another machine, use snmpwalk -v2c 172.24.32.15 1.3.6.1.2.1.4.22.1.2

mini-snmpd and mini_snmpd both seem to be unavailable as alternatives.

This is required to use PMP on e.g. LinkSys WRT3200acm.

Explanation:
Generally routers like Linksys WRT3200Acm have both USB3 and eSata interfaces. To not cause Wifi 2.4GHz interference users should switch their NAS from USB3 to eSata. And this is not possible now if they have >1 HDD connected on the eSata. With 2 or more HDD over eSata required is PMP to access both/all drives. Seems like for each CPU a “dedicated” zram is been tried to mounted which is failing. ER-X does have a Dual Core CPU.

I have an Arcadyan ARV7518PW ADSL router on which I flashed U-Boot, and installed different versions of OpenWrt and LEDE. I only manage to get an ADSL connection with OpenWrt 14.07, and not on OpenWrt 15.05.1, LEDE 17.01.3 and LEDE 17.01.4.

I checked that the DSL firmware in /lib/firmware is identical in all these versions. I installed the packages in different ways (direct upload using httpd from U-Boot, upgrade from other version), even on different routers (I have 3 of these), with consistent results.

Please let me know whatever information you’d like me to add.

Like described in this bug it is not possible to recover via TFTP the device. It pulls the firmware but do not flash anything.
Try to recover with LEDE but also with all stock-images from tp-link website.

My setup:
I have a TP Link WRT3600 with LEDE 17.01.4 (bug appeared in earlier versions as well, at least in 17.01.3 and 17.01.2). The router is connected to a manageable switch via VLAN trunk. The trunk consists of 4 VLANs with the IDs 1, 10, 11 and 12. LEDE’s IP and the switch’s management IP are located in VLAN 1. There are other switches connected to the first switch, also via VLAN trunk. Each VLAN has their own /24 IPv4 subnet in the format 192.168.<VLAN-ID>.0/24.

The phenomenon:
A device in VLAN 10 or 12 pings the switch. tcpdump confirms that the switch is sending exactly one reply per request. However, the device receives duplicate pings (for now, 2 duplicates and a valid response). A check with tcpdump running on the LEDE router sniffing on eth0.1 receives the valid reply as well. A check with tcpdump on the router sniffing on eth0 in general shows the duplicates as well. The duplicates go away when i ping from the LEDE explicitly on eth0.1, but re-appear when i ping without an explicit ethernet device to use. tcpdump shows me even more: The valid response is marked VLAN 10 with the pinging device as target address. One duplicate is marked VLAN 10 with the same target address as well, but the second duplicate is marked VLAN 12 but with the pinging device as target address, which is an IP located in VLAN 1’s subnet. The pinging client receives all three answers.

This is also happening for ARP requests. The LEDE router makes an ARP request for the switch’s management MAC address and replicates the answer to VLANs 10 and 12, so that these VLANs/subnets receive ARP answers they didn’t request.

This only happens for this particular switch. The other trunked switches have no replicated answers when they get pinged. This only happens for VLANs 10 and 12, VLAN 11 is not affected, there is no duplicate addressing it. I tried to create more VLANs, but the number of duplicates doesn’t increase. I tried to move all the stuff from VLAN 12 to VLAN 14, and the duplicate change their destination to VLAN 14 as well. When i start a ping and observe it in my terminal window, and deactivate one of the interfaces for either VLAN 10 or 12, the number of replicates decreases.

And last but not least: I started a ping and observed it in the terminal. Remember, it goes from VLAN 10 to VLAN 1. I created a firewall rule which should block all incoming ICMP responses from VLAN 1 back to VLAN 10. Nevertheless, with the rule activated, i still got three responses for each request, as if the firewall rule wasn’t in place at all.

 

The switch i was pinging the whole time was an Allied Telesis GS950/24. This phenomenon happens with other routers running OpenWRT Chaos Calmer 15.01 as well (namely a TP Link WR841n)

Run many speed tests from multiple devices (seems to trigger it almost instantly)

 

Right before it crashes and I lose all connectivity I get the message:

I tried increasing the txpacket limit from 1000 to 20000 but that only delayed the crash until later.

While I can compile the ipt-debug module (which provides the iptables TRACE target), it is not available for download in the LEDE packages repository. Compiling it myself works well (but then requires me to compile ALL kernel modules).

Since the kernel package KernelPackage/ipt-debug already exists but is not enabled by default, here’s my kind request to at least provide it as a package to default LEDE users should they want to use it.

Commit 760f7bf1b8af6c899ccb14d47e8b987ed9a62adf on Nov 6th updated the mwlwifi driver to accept and MDIE Beacon parameter from hostapd. I have compiled this version in the 17.01.4 SDK and been running for roughly a month with no issues. Please update the firmware for the next release, if possible.

Wireless radio0 is working perfectly fine but not on radio1 or radio2. There’s random disconnection, can happen 3 times a day or once per 3 day. Only solution is to reboot the router. See the forum thread for more information.

The patch file can be found in that link and is quite small. I tried openwrt-sr102-limited-whole-image-with-luci.zip from that page and it worked. I suppose it should be relatively easy for LEDE to support it?

The patch file has inconsistent board_name, e.g. bskyb_63168, sr102, sr_102 , so some LED lights don’t work and the router isn’t accessible by network by default, I had to configure the network using serial console:

Updates and testing are impossible for me because I don’t know what else to do from the command line.

This is happening on a Meraki MR18, bootstrapped using @riptidewave93s bringup method described at https://medium.com/openwrt-iot/lede-openwrt-installing-firmware-on-meraki-mr18-e96e4e081710. It was then sysupgraded to 17.01, and then 17.01.4 when appropriate.

Following a LEDE factory reset in order to wipe the configuration, it is now seemingly unable to bring up 2 of the 3 radio interfaces. The following output has been observed in dmesg, where it seems that the ath module is causing a kernel oops.

My other MR18 with LEDE 17.04.1 has not been reset in this manner, and continues to work, and does not exhibit the kernel oops on boot.

‘iw phy’ lists all 3 radios, whereas ‘iw dev’ lists only wlan2.

I am getting kernel panics when reading and writing files to SD card / mmc using mt7621 devices and 4.9.x kernel (using mtk_sd driver included in LEDE trunk via 0046-mmc-MIPS-ralink-add-sdhci-for-mt7620a-SoC.patch). 4.4.x kernels showed no problems.

Occurs with multiple devices (have tested ZBT WG3526 and WE1326 so far), have tried multiple snapshots and compiling from latest trunk, always results in the same problem. No issue on same devices with 17.01.x releases with 4.4.x kernel.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. mount mmc partition (seems to mount and create directories ok)
  2. copy file to mounted partition (file of correct size will be created but corrupt)
  3. OR copy/read files from sd card
  4. kernel will panic (see below)

Kernel 4.9 - happens on both 17.01 and trunk with k4.9 but k4.4 is unaffected.

Wireless transmits broken/malformed frames that are not detected/corrected on low layer protocols. It can be seen by:
1. Extremely low throughput on both bands - 20-50 mbits max on 2.4 and 5 ghz. Some times only either or neither band is affected but it's a matter of time when both get affected. Or they just switch between each other if only 1 was affected.
2. Sometimes broken LUCI web styles when accessed through wifi, sometimes broken ssh/ssl connections: https://bugs.lede-project.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=1173

My observations:
1. The issue affects only Netgear ipq806x devices and not related to qca9984. According to recent findings Netgear R7500v2 with qca9980 also suffers from the issue

2. The bug happens only on k4.9 according to tests done between k4.4 and k4.9 with completely same set of wireless backports and firmware + cal/pre-cal data + board (API 1/2 or GPL) data. I've tried all available firmware, cal/pre-cal data and board data options including GPL - no effect.

3. It doesn't seem to be related to stmmac, I've tried different buffer options.

Actually I'm starting to think that it's smth within uboot that messes with ram, like it does in the last 2 mibs of memory region.

Additional forum investigations https://forum.lede-project.org/t/netgear-r7800-exploration-ipq8065-qca9984/285/481 But I must say that that workaround didn't work for me.

The issue seem to be floating and probably related to some kind of code/byte padding/alignment in memory?

As fact I have been having this issue only with 2.4ghz before and after some unrelated commits now I have it on 5ghz as well.
